Food safety and standards authority of India is known as fssai in short, FSSAI has been created for establishing standards related to food articles and also to regulate processes related to food manufacturing. There by ensuring the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
Purpose OF FSSAI
The FSSAI was established to increase the efficiency & to decrease the complexity of food registration & regulation in India. As time passed by a clear need was arisen for a statutory body to regulate the food safety across the nation as the prevailing standards were very chaotic. The management of food safety regulations in the country became very difficult, as the authority were decentralised among various departments across the nation. Finally FSSAI was set up as a remedy and to bring out better service. Today it is mandatory to get a FSSAI licence for anyone, related to food business.

Flow of Application
- Creation of user ID
- Starting a New Application
- Selection of Kind of Business
- Eligibility for licence/ Registration
- Filling Form A & B, including selection of food product category
- Uploading self-attested Documents & Acceptance of Declaration
- Submission of fee & the Application
- A 17 digit application number will be allotted for future references.
Fees
- New license/ Registration: ₹100 to ₹7500/ annum
- Modification of License& Registration: ₹10000(for license) & ₹100(for registration)
- Renewal: same as NEW LICENSE/REGISTRATION FEE

Categories of License
- Registration
- State License
- Central License
Registration; it is the basic form of recognition issued by FSSAI, certifying the entity to operate in the market. Manufacturers or sellers having a turnover, up to ₹12 lakh are covered under this category.
State License: Moderate entities engaged in food related business falls under this category. The State Authorities operating in each state issues State License to eligible entities. Firms having a turnover ranging from ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crores are required to have State license.
Central License: Large establishments that are engaged in food business having a turnover above ₹20 crores must have the Central License.
